Facts: It was alleged that the defendant got into an argument with his mother on New Year’s. According to the police report, the defendant struck his mother in the face while they were sitting in a car. The police took photographs of the alleged injuries and charged the defendant with Domestic Violence Battery.

Outcome: Mr. Sobel was hired prior to the arrest. He was able to negotiate a peaceful surrender of his client. By being hired early in the case, Mr. Sobel was able to run his own investigation into the allegations. With information obtained from this investigation, Mr. Sobel was able to contact the case filer and persuade them that there was no reasonable likelihood of conviction in this matter. The Office of the State Attorney declined to file a formal information and the case was dismissed.
