When searching for the right criminal defense attorney, you are looking for two key characteristics.
1. You need to find a criminal attorney who is knowledgeable in the area of criminal defense law.
- Does the attorney focus his practice on criminal defense?
- Does the attorney practice other areas of law?
- When you speak with the attorney does he understand and explain the nuisances of the law as it applies to your case?
2. You need to find someone who you feel comfortable putting your life in their hands, because that is what you are doing. You need to find the attorney who will stand with you ever step of the way.
- Is the criminal defense attorney passionate about what he does and representing you during your time of need?
- Will that attorney pass you case off to an associate or a coverage attorney?
- Will that criminal defense attorney answer your phone calls in the evening and the weekend?
- Will you be able to get the attorney on the phone and not an answering service?
- Will the criminal defense attorney aggressively defend you?
If you can find these two characteristics in a criminal attorney then you have found the right criminal attorney.
